This 1962 edition of The Suburban Times provides a glimpse of early modern Bowie, Maryland. The Suburban Times was published every Wednesday evening by editor Bruce Bayliss, Jr. and was a predecessor newspaper to what eventually became the Bowie Blade News.

Advertisements in this edition included B&B Barber shop promoting childrens haircuts for $1.00, men's haircuts $1.25
(Flattops 25 cents extra); The Pigeon House Inn boasting "Completely Air Conditioned" (Editors Note - the Pigeon House Inn was the building now housing Jaspers on Rt. 301 and Rt 450 across the county line. I have a childhood recollection that the Pigeon House Inn had a couple slots machines back when slots were legal in Maryland); McIntire Hardware at Belair Shopping Center; Bowie Taxi Co.; Powell TV Service (a very important business in 1960s Bowie); Tidewater Insurance Company and many other small advertisements from the areas small businesses - some even mentioning in their ads that they serve Belair.
